Interview Questions Lagos Employers Ask and How to Answer

Many candidates lose opportunities not because they cannot do the job, but because they enter the interview unprepared. A good answer should be honest, direct and connected to the role you want.

1. Tell us about yourself

Do not start with your life story. Give a short professional summary: your name, experience, skill, location and the type of job you can do. Example: "My name is Ada. I have two years of sales experience, I live in Surulere, and I am good at attending to customers and following up on orders."

2. Why do you want this job?

Employers want to know if you understand the role. Mention the job, your experience and your willingness to work responsibly. Avoid saying only "because I need money."

3. What experience do you have?

Explain where you worked, what you did and what results you helped achieve. If you do not have experience, talk about your training, attitude and willingness to learn under supervision.

4. Can you work in this location?

Location is very important in Lagos. Be honest. If the job is in Lekki, VI, Surulere, Ikeja, Yaba, Ipaja or Ajah, explain how you will get there and whether the transport is realistic.

5. Why did you leave your last job?

Do not insult your former employer. Give a mature answer: contract ended, relocation, career growth, salary issue, business closed or better opportunity. Keep it respectful.

6. What are your strengths?

Choose strengths that match the job. For sales, mention communication and customer follow-up. For hospitality, mention neatness, patience and service. For field work, mention discipline, reporting and movement.

7. What salary do you expect?

Know the salary on the job post before attending. If the salary is stated, do not act surprised. If it is negotiable, answer with a realistic range based on your experience and the role.

8. When can you resume?

If you are available immediately, say so. If you need notice from a current job, be clear. Employers value candidates who communicate honestly.

9. Do you have any questions?

Ask smart questions: work schedule, reporting line, job duties, interview next step and company expectations. This shows seriousness.

10. What candidates should avoid

Do not arrive late, dress carelessly, argue, exaggerate experience, answer calls during the interview or speak rudely. Your attitude can decide the result before your CV does.
